Play ball! Red Sox home opener will feature fly-over, improvements at Fenway Park
The Boston Red Sox are opening their 125th home season, their 114th at Fenway Park, on Friday against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Pregame ceremonies for the home opener will welcome members of the 1975 team to mark the 50th anniversary of the team's American League Championship win and remember Red Sox Hall of Famer Luis Tiant, who died last year at the age of 83.
Before the game, the teams will be introduced along the baselines, with the colors presented by the 1st Battalion and 181st Infantry Regiment of the Massachusetts National Guard, the 66th Air Base Group out of Hanscom Air Force Base, and members of the 1st Coast Guard District.

The national anthem will be performed by the Boston Arts Academy "Treble Allstars” and punctuated by a fly-over by two F-35s flown by the 134th Fighter Squadron, Green Mountain Boys of the Vermont Air National Guard and one KC-46 from the New Hampshire Air National Guard’s 157th Air Refueling Wing.
Fans coming to the park have a lot to look forward to on and off the field. New video boards, which are crisp, clear and more visible, have been installed.
Fans will also see some new faces on this year's team, including two time all-star Alex Bregman, lefties Garrett Crochet and Jovani Moran and World Series champions Walker Buehler and Patrick Sandoval, who's not expected to pitch until mid-season due to recent Tommy John surgery.
Bring your appetite when you head to the park this season — some new food items are on the menu.
New concessions include The Cowboy Up! Burger, Street Tacos and Cabot Gourmet Grilled Cheese sandwiches.
There's also a new Soup Sack that will dish out clam chowder, broccoli cheddar soup, and lobster bisque in bread bowls during the colder months of the season.
